C&D Technologies Intros WPA60 DC/DC Converter

November 12, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

C&D Technologies Inc. (Raleigh, NC) announced its new high-performance, dual-output, 60W, WPA60 dc/dc converter that meets EN60950, UL60950 and CSA safety requirements, and simplifies delivery of the low operating voltages required by modern ASIC and DSP technologies. The WPA60 is suitable for distributed power architectures in high-end telecommunications systems.

The WPA60 has a wide input-voltage range of 36V to 75V and features input and output filtering as standard. Built-in protection functionality includes under-voltage lockout, a soft-start capability, over-current and over-voltage protection, and over-temperature shutdown. To ensure maximum availability, an automatic reset function allows the converter to automatically resume operation once the fault condition is removed. In addition, a remote on/off capability allows the converter to be switched on and off using either negative or positive logic signals.

Using a fixed switching frequency of 350kHz, the WPA60 operates with efficiency levels of around 90 percent. Minimum isolation voltage is rated at 2,000Vdc, and maximum ripple and noise on both outputs is just 60mV. The converter can be used in temperatures from -40 to +100 degrees C and has an MTTF rating of one million hours.

Available now, pricing for the WPA60 is $55 in OEM quantities.
