C&D Technologies Inc. (Tucson, AZ) has expanded its range of 50W dc/dc converters with a new single-output device that delivers the low voltages demanded by modern ASIC-based and DSP-based designs. The 1.2V output WPA50 dc/dc converter measures 58.42mm x 22.86mm x 9.0mm (2.3in x 0.9in x 0.35in). Target applications include high-density, distributed power architectures in telecommunications, industrial and data communication systems.

The 1.2V output WPA50 converter can accommodate a wide input-voltage range of between 36Vdc and 75Vdc, and is capable of operating at temperatures up to 100°C without a heatsink. No minimum load is required and the device features an isolation voltage rating of 1,500Vdc. The new converter also offers output trim and remote output sense as well as a remote on/off capability that allows the device to be turned on and off using either negative or positive logic signals. Thermal shutdown and protection against output over-voltage and over-current conditions are supplied as standard.

The WPA50 converter offers high levels of on-board functionality, operates with a fixed switching frequency of 400kHz, and meets CISPR22/EN55022/FCC15J Class B specifications for EMI levels with external filtering. Efficiency levels are as high as 91%, while typical ripple and noise on the output is specified as 75mV. The operating temperatures for the new converters range from -40°C to +100°C, and the MTTF for all of the devices in the range is one million hours.

Pricing for the 1.2V output WPA50 dc/dc converters is less than $50 in OEM quantities.
