Calex Presents New WD Series of DC/DC Converters

New Products Jan 17, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Calex Manufacturing Co. Inc. (Concord, CA) announced the WD Series of 1in x 2in, 10W, dual-output dc/dc converters. The WD Series features a wide four-to-one dc-input range to accommodate 12V battery, 24Vdc industrial and 48V telecom power sources. Three models in the series have an input range from 9Vdc to 36Vdc and the remaining three models in the series offer an 18Vdc to 72Vdc input range. The WD Series offers an optional on/off function for battery applications.

The WD Series is fully isolated input to output. The isolation voltage for the 48V input models is 1,544Vdc while the isolation voltage for the 24V nominal-input models is 700Vdc. The case operating temperature range is from –40 to +85 degrees C with a functional range of –50 to +100 degrees C case temperature. The case thermal impedance is 16 degrees C per watt. The unit incorporates a five-sided shielded case and is fully encapsulated for improved thermal performance. Case dimensions are 1in x 2in x 0.42in.

The WD Series offers outputs of ±5V, ±12V and ±15Vdc. The output noise for the ±15V output model is 60mV peak-to-peak, typically, with a simple add-on circuit available for all models, which lowers the output noise to less than 10mV peak-to-peak. Line and load regulation is typically 0.1 percent. The output-voltage temperature coefficient is typically 50ppm per degree C. The unit also features short-circuit protection.
