Calex Manufacturing Intros HD Dual Series DC Converters

New Products Nov 15, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Calex Manufacturing Co. Inc. (Concord, CA) announced the addition of the HD Dual Series to its offering of dc-dc conversion solutions. Seven different combinations of 1.5 V, 1.8 V, 2.5 V, 3.3 V and 5 V are available as output voltages. Regardless of the output voltage pair selected, each voltage is independently regulated and can be individually trimmed to ±10%.

Fully isolated to 1,500 Vdc, the HD Dual Series supports input-voltage ranges of 18 V to 36 V and 36 V to 75 V. Each output is rated for up to 10 A of output current, with a combined maximum power level of 75 W, and both outputs can be operated down to no-load current without damage to the part. Pulse-by-pulse current limiting and short-circuit protection are included as standard options, as are over-voltage under-voltage and reverse-polarity protection.

The converters are packaged in a 2.28 in x 2.4 in encapsulated case with an aluminum baseplate. The operating temperature range for the HD Series is -40 °C to +100 °C at the baseplate. The mean time between failure is greater than 1,000,000 hours, and the part offers a low idle current of 2 mA. On power-up, the turn on overshoot is 0%.

The converters are backed with a five-year warranty. Pricing on the HD Dual is under $100 for 1,000-piece quantities. Samples are shipping now, and production quantities are available with a lead time of four to six weeks.
