Calex Intros New 70Q5.12SR Quad-Output DC-DC Converter

May 09, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Calex Manufacturing Co. Inc. (Concord, CA) introduced its new Model 70Q5.12SR 30 W quad-output dc-dc converter, which has an input range of 40 Vdc to 120 Vdc and outputs of 5 Vdc and 12 Vdc. The outputs are isolated from the input and from output to output that allows the connection of outputs in series to obtain higher output voltages, ie. 10 V or 24 Vout. The outputs can also be paralleled for increased output current. In general, the 5 V and 12 V outputs can be used in a variety of configurations for maximum flexibility.

The 70Q5.12SR is housed in an aluminum cast case with a built-in heatsink for improved thermal performance. The case measures 3 in x 2.5 in x 0.6 in. Four threaded through holes are provided in the case. With the integrated heatsink, thermal impedance is only 3.8 °C case temperature rise per watt dissipated. The case temperature operating range is -40 ±C to +100 ±C. The SR features thermal shutdown. The unit is protected by continuous short-circuit protection with auto restart.

The output current on the 5 V outputs is rated up to 1.4 Adc each. The output current on the 12 V outputs is rated up to 700 mAdc each. Output noise is 30 mV peak-to-peak on the 5 V outputs and 40 mV peak-to-peak on the 12 V outputs. Line and load regulation is ±0.2% and ±0.4%, respectively for the 5 V outputs. The line and load regulation for the 12 V outputs is ±0.1% and ±.02%, respectively. The switching frequency of the 70Q5.12SR is 225 kHz. The input-to-output isolation voltage is 1,544 Vdc and the isolation from output to output is 200 Vdc. The SR also features trim and on/off.

Pricing for the 70Q5.12SR is $83.30 each for 1,000-unit quantities. Units are available from stock.
