Calex Announces QL Series DC/DC Converter

December 17, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Calex Manufacturing Co. Inc. (Concord, CA) announced its 75W QL Series quarter-brick dc/dc converter family, which is potted with a thermally conductive potting compound and utilizes an aluminum base plate, resulting in superior thermal performance in still-air or limited-airflow environments.

The QL Series utilizes synchronous rectification resulting in efficiencies in excess of 90%. The case operating temperature range is –40°C to +100°C. The thermal impedance of the package in a still-air environment is 9°C/W. The QL also features thermal shutdown. Case size is 2.28in x 1.45in x 0.50in. Threaded-through-holes are provided to allow easy mounting or the addition of a heatsink for extended temperature applications.

The QL has a 2:1 input range, 18Vdc to 36Vdc or 36Vdc to 75Vdc. Output voltages are 1.5Vdc, 1.8Vdc, 2.5Vdc, 3.3Vdc and 5Vdc. Output noise runs as low as 30mV peak-to-peak. Input-to-output isolation is 1,544Vdc. Standard features include remote sensing, output trim and remote on-off. UL and TUV approvals are pending. The mean time between failure for the QL runs in excess of 1 million hours.

Pricing is below $50 in OEM quantities. Lead time four to six weeks.
