Beta Dyne Releases PowerWatt DC/DC Converter

May 12, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Beta Dyne Inc. (Bridgewater, MA) announced its newest addition to its PowerWatt Series, a family of 60W, dual-output, dc/dc converters that feature high efficiency and density through the use of patented designs utilizing improved synchronous rectification techniques and planar magnetics.

The new converters come in a 1.2in x 2.3in x 0.410in package size, accept 24Vin or 48Vin with an output range from 5V to subvolt range with 12 standard models, and deliver 60W of full power while the Vo2 is current limited to 10A of Io2. High efficiency, coupled with a multilayer PCB and thermal management, minimizes power dissipation and allows the converter to operate without an external heatsink. The through-hole pins allow for low-cost installation and act as an integrated heatsink for the converter.

The converters feature efficiency of up to 90 percent, a 50µs transient-response time, a 150µA off-state current, output synchronous rectification, industry-standard pins, a 2:1 input-voltage range, input-to-output isolation, soft-start, multiple converter synchronization, short-circuit protection, thermal protection, and under-voltage and over-voltage protection.
