Beta Dyne Adds 30W DC-DC Converters

New Products Mar 12, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Beta Dyne, Inc. has added the EB Series of 30W dc-dc converters. Based on patent pending technology for synchronous rectification and noise reduction, the EB series packs up to 30W of output power into a six-sided shielded, metal case that measures only 2 x 1 x 0.45 inches (50.80 x 25.40 x 11.43mm). By employing a case, the EB Series offers not only EMI and RFI protection, but also allows for operation in free air environments unlike open-frame designs that typically require forced air cooling.

Fifteen models will be available at launch (with custom models available upon request). The converters feature a 2:1 input voltage range (with nominal inputs of 12, 24 and 48Vdc) and a single output voltage of 2.5, 3.3, 5, 12 or 15Vdc.

Standard features include input-to-output isolation, soft start, external synchronization, input undervoltage protection, output overvoltage protection, short circuit protection, and thermal protection. The standard operating temperature range is -40°C to +71°C.

The patent-pending synchronous rectification techniques increase the converter's efficiency (up to 92%) and allows for higher power density. The use of standard double-sided PCBs (as opposed to multilayered designs) help to reduce cost.

Units are available in 4 to 6 weeks. Pricing for the EB Series starts at $65.00 each for single units.
