AVX Presents TPS Series III Tantalum Capacitors

New Products Nov 04, 2001 by Jeff Shepard

AVX Corp. (Myrtle Beach, SC) announced the release of the TPS Series III tantalum chip capacitors, developed to provide design engineers with low ESR, wide voltage range, stability and high reliability at a low-cost. The TPS Series III utilizes MnO2 technology in conjunction with tantalum dielectric to fulfill the requirements of switch-mode power supply, micro-processor and digital circuit applications.

“The TPS Series III offers the reliability of standard tantalum with the field performance, stability and electrical/thermal stress resistance of traditional MnO2,” said Mark Obuszewski, AVX product manager. “This superior combination results in the added benefits of reduced dc leakage, a wide voltage range and operating temperatures of up to 125 degrees C as compared to competing technologies.”

The TPS Series III capacitors feature voltage ranges from 4V to 50V, with a maximum capacitance value of 1,000µF. Standard capacitance tolerances are ±10 percent and ±20 percent, with operating temperatures ranging from -55 to +125 degrees C. Featuring ESR values as low as 40m, these TPS capacitors offer ripple current values as high as 2.5A(rms).

Pricing for the TPS Series III tantalum capacitors ranges from $0.50 to $2.50 in quantities of 100K, with lead times from stock to six weeks and samples available immediately.
