February 12, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Ascom Energy Systems AG (Switzerland) launched the new Xena 50 dc/dc converter series with industry-standard, quarter-brick, pin-out. The Xena 50 is 50 percent smaller then the Ascom industry-standard, quarter-brick XENA 100 Series and delivers up to 30A at 1.5V output voltage. The new converter targets the telecommunications, industrial automation, and computer/server markets.

The Xena 50 family offers 36Vdc to 75Vdc input voltage; single outputs from 1Vdc to 5Vdc; proprietary planar magnetics; a real one-eighth brick footprint with industry-standard, one-fourth brick pinout; an efficiency, at full load, of better than 90 percent, a low profile of 8.5mm or 0.335in; high current of 30A at 1.5V; UL, CSA, CE agency approval; remote on/off; current limiting; sense lines; a trim function; over-voltage protection; and an operating temperature range between -40°C and +100°C.

The new Xena 50 converters are available for immediate worldwide delivery, in sample quantities, at competitive OEM pricing.
