Artesyn Debuts Ultra Series 200 W DC Converters

November 08, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Artesyn Technologies Inc. (Boca Raton, FL), a leader in power conversion solutions for the communications industry, extended its Typhoon™ family of board-mounted power with the addition of a new 200 W series of quarter-brick dc-dc converters, the "Ultra" Series, which provide single isolated outputs of 2.5 V, 3.3 V and 5.0 V, with continuous current ratings of 80 A, 60 A and 40 A, respectively.

The 200 W quarter-bricks use the same patented conversion topology as all other Typhoon bricks, and feature fully regulated outputs for driving low-voltage silicon loads directly. The converters have an industry-standard, quarter-brick footprint of 2.3 in x 1.45 in x 0.3 in, and provide a functional replacement for half-bricks, occupying 40% less board space and delivering higher levels of output current and useable power. The converters are intended for the networking, telecom and wireless markets, in applications.

The new Ultra Series feature a wide telecom-standard, input-voltage range of 36 Vdc to 75 Vdc; two additional low-voltage 100 A models with a choice of 1.5 V at 100 A and 1.8 V at 100 A outputs; operation over a wide ambient temperature range of -40 °C to +85 °C; a set-point accuracy of ±1.5%; line and load regulation to within ±0.1% and ±0.2%, respectively; and a single isolated output voltage, which can be trimmed from 80% to 110% of nominal using a single resistor.

The new Ultra Series 200 W quarter-bricks are based on an open-frame, single-board package designed for through-hole mounting. Sample quantities of are available for immediate delivery. In OEM quantities of 1,000, unit prices are $88 for all models. Standard lead time is stock to 8 to 12 weeks ARO.
