APC Presents New Magnum VS DC Power Plant

June 02, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

American Power Conversion Corp. (APC, West Kingston, RI) announced the new Magnum VS, a modular, rack-mountable, dc power plant for low-power wireless, customer premise and distributed network applications. The addition of built-in web/SNMP management allows the Magnum VS to be remotely managed over a network or via the Internet, and is compatible with APC's new integrated rack, power and cooling architecture, InfraStruXure.

The versatile design of the Magnum VS accepts a wide input-voltage range, allowing the unit to be shipped and installed worldwide, and a wide temperature range permits the Magnum VS to be safely installed indoors or in outdoor environments, in some cases eliminating the need for air conditioning in the enclosures. The modularity of the Magnum VS means additional rectifiers can be purchased and added when needed, reducing costs and eliminating waste. To achieve the modularity, the Magnum VS utilizes a 500W/-48Vdc rectifier as the building block and is scaleable up to 2,500W utilizing only 3U in a 19in wide frame and up to 5,000W in 6U of rack space.

APC's Magnum VS will be available in North America in late June 2003, and will be available in Europe, the Middle East and Africa in the third quarter of 2003.
