APC Presents New APC-SCM-R Digital Controller

New Products Feb 08, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Power Conversion plc (APC, Farnborough, England) announced its new APC-SCM-R, a 1U-high, 19 in, rack-mount unit to control and monitor the Powerstax® range of ultra-low-profile APC-R3000, APC-R2400 and APC-R2250 ac-dc power systems. Suitable for applications that are powered from a battery, ac-dc input, load sharing and low-voltage backup power systems, the APC-SRM-R can be used in a wide range of industries, such as telecom, datacom and industrial control.

The APC-SCM-R provides real-time monitoring and control of up to 12 individual hot-swap power modules that, used in parallel, can supply a maximum 12,000 W. Using an industry-standard I²C serial bus interface, the APC-SRM-R digital controller allows the operator to select each individual power module and adjust the voltage over the output ranges of 23 Vdc to 29 Vdc or 46 Vdc to 58 Vdc in minimum 100 mV steps. Other features include automatic compensation for battery temperature while the status of other system-critical operating parameters can be taken directly from the power module rack.

Compact with an ultra-low 1U high profile, the APC-SCM-R measures just 482.6 mm (19 in rack-mount) x 43.56 mm x 84.29 mm. The unit gives simple module selection and voltage adjustment by front-panel-mounted rocker switches, while bright front-panel LED displays provide the operator with a clear indication of module address and voltage plus the output current of the module being read.
