September 08, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Power Conversion plc (APC, Farnborough, England) introduced its new 60A version of its half-brick dc/dc converter range, the APC-H301 Series, which features a wide input range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc and outputs of 2.5Vdc, 2.0Vdc, 1.8Vdc and 1.5Vdc. The new series is suitable for 48V distributed power architecture, including any systems that operate from a -48V battery source.

The APC-H301 Series measures 61.0mm x 57.9mm x 12.7mm; has a typical efficiency of 87 percent for a full 60A load; and utilizes a two-tier, open-frame construction. The module has heat-dissipating components inside the unit thermally coupled to the metal baseplate to aid thermal management, which helps the unit to achieve an operating case temperature range of -40 to +100 degrees C and an MTBF of 1Mh. The APC-H301 Series also offers a comprehensive range of features to simplify integration into a complete power system, including low output noise and a fixed frequency of operation at 160kHz to help in noise-sensitive applications, as well as a wide output-voltage trim facility that enables the output to be adjusted between 80 and 110 percent of nominal.

The modules are International Safety Agency approved to meet UL60950, EN60950 and CE mark requirements, and incorporate advanced control, safety and protection features, including over-temperature protection, output over-voltage protection and output over-current protection.
