AnalogicTech Intros SmartSwitch Family of Switches

New Products Sep 03, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Analogic Technologies Inc. (Sunnyvale, CA) announced its new SmartSwitch family of load switches, which integrate a wide variety of functions to reduce component count, cost and power consumption in small form factor portable systems. Built around low-resistance, p-channel power MOSFETs, the SmartSwitch line is suitable for cell phones, PDAs, digital cameras and other consumer electronics.

The SmartSwitch line is divided into two product types. Current-limiting

SmartSwitches are designed to control external loads with either fixed or

adjustable limits. The AAT4618 features fast current-limiting capabilities with over-temperature protection, a 2.7V to 5.5V input range to support both 3V and 5V systems, a factory-programmed current limit of either 500mA or 1A, thermal overload protection, and a fast transient response to short circuits of 1µs.

The Softswitch SmartSwitch products are designed to control internal loads; extend component life by protecting power supplies, batteries and capacitors from current spikes; and are suitable for inrush limiting applications with large supply capacitors or motor applications. The AAT4250 and AAT4280 softswitch products are currently available. The AAT4250 features a typical RDS(on) of 120 milliohms; an input range of 1.8V to

5.5V for 2.5V, 3.3V and 5V systems; and a

1.5ms turn-on and 10µs turn-off time. The AAT4280 features a typical RDS(on) of 80 milliohms, an input-voltage range of 1.8V to 5V, and is available in a six-pin SOT23 or eight-pin SC70JW package.

The AAT4618 is now available in the SOT23-5 package for $0.39 or in the SC70JW-8 package for $0.44 in OEM quantities of 1,000-unit quantities per month. The AAT4250 is available now for $0.32 in OEM quantities of 1,000-unit quantities per month. The AAT4280 is also available now for $0.44 in OEM quantities of 1,000-unit quantities per month.
