AMIS Intros AMIS-X660 CAN Transceiver

March 30, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

AMI Semiconductor Inc. (AMIS, Pocatello, ID), a leading designer and manufacturer of application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs), introduced an ISO 11898-2-compliant, high-speed controller area network (CAN) transceiver, the AMIS-X660, which is primarily intended for use in automotive applications where it provides the interface between a CAN protocol controller and the physical bus. The device is also suitable for a wide range of industrial applications.

The AMIS-X660 provides differential transmit/receive capability between the bus and the CAN protocol controller. Suitable for use in 12V and 24V systems, it is able to achieve transmission rates of up to 1Mbaud. The level of immunity is extremely high, due to the wide common-mode voltage range of the receiver inputs (±35V). Built-in protection features of the AMIS-X660 include a thermal protection circuit that triggers shutdown at approximately 160°C, 45V load dump protection, and continuous short-circuit protection to supply and ground. The AMIS-X660 is supplied in an SO-8 package and has an operating temperature range of -40°C to +125°C.

The AMIS-X660 is currently available at $0.74 per unit in quantities of 5,000.
