Allegro MicroSystems Intros A8483 Step-Up Converter

August 07, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Allegro MicroSystems Inc. (Worcester, MA), a supplier of mixed-signal power semiconductors and hall-effect sensors, announced its new A8483 step-up converter that can be used as a general-purpose boost regulator for a multitude of applications. It is suitable for various end applications, including portable battery-powered equipment, cellular phones, personal digital assistants, camcorders, personal stereos, MP3 players, cameras, mobile global positioning satellite systems, and high-definition televisions.

The new step-up converter is a 1.2 MHz current-mode, dc-dc converter that includes an integrated 36 V FET, and comes in a small 10-lead, thermally enhanced, MLP/TDFN lead-free package. The input voltage can range from 2.5 V to 10 V when connected directly to a battery or input rail, and the input voltage can range from 0.9 V to 18 V when an external bias supply is connected to the A8483. The output voltage can be set up to 35 V. Smaller external components and the integrated switch reduce component count and footprint for a variety of applications.

The A8483 is supplied in a five-pin, 3 mm x 3 mm MLP/TDFN package, and has an 8 to 12 week lead time to market. Pricing for 10,000 units is $0.47.
