Alcatel Intros New AM 10 SMT DC/DC Converters

January 28, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Alcatel Converters (Lannion, France) introduced its new range of surface-mountable dc/dc converters, an addition to the AM 10 SI Series of high-performance converters. Designed for telecom and industrial applications, the converters have output voltages of 12V, 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V and 1.8V. They draw power from a 48V nominal input and feature overload protection in the event of a short-circuit or system overload.

The converters supply up to 12W of output power in a 2in x 1in package that also features a low profile of only 0.39in (10mm). The SM 10 SI converters use patented self-synchronous rectification technology to offer efficiency of more than 89 percent with a 5V output. The new converters weigh less than 20g and have a standard input range of 2:1 36Vdc to 75Vdc and a voltage accuracy of one percent at full load over the operating temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C.

Special features include remote on/off and output-voltage adjust. All converters are assembled and tested automatically, using state-of-the-art equipment to perform stringent testing. The AM 10 SI Series is fully compliant with EN 60950 and UL 60950 (third edition) standards.
