Alcatel Debuts AM 10 SI Series of DC/DC Converters

March 25, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Alcatel Converters (Lannion, France) announced its new AM 10 SI Series of dc/dc converters, which are now on the market in a low profile of only 9.8mm (0.385in). The new low profile enables up to 20 percent denser packing of circuit boards in telecom racks resulting in substantial space, weight and cost savings.

Designed for telecom and industrial applications, the AM 10 SI Series has output voltages of 12V, 5V, 3.3V, 2.5V and 1.8V. Options include remote on/off with positive or negative logic, output voltage adjust, and external synchronization with the customer system frequency. The converters also feature an input range of 36Vdc to 75Vdc, a voltage accuracy of one percent at full load over the operating temperature range of -40 to +85 degrees C, and open-frame construction optimized for free convection cooling. The converters weigh less than 20g.

The converters use a patented topology with self-synchronous rectification to offer an efficiency of 90 percent at 5Vout, and a high MTBF of over one million hours at 45 degrees C. The converters are available in an industry-standard footprint and pin-out of 2in x 1in with up to 12W output power. The converters are assembled and tested automatically. The AM 10 SI Series is UL 60950 third edition recognized and fully compliant with EN 60950.
