Advanced Power Conversion Intros APC-3000 Series

June 26, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Advanced Power Conversion plc (Farnborough, England) announced its new APC-3000 Series of bulk power front-end solutions, which deliver up to 3,000W in a ultra-low profile, 1U, 19in rack-modular system that sets new standards in high power density ac/dc power supplies. The APC-3000 is suitable for many different applications, including telecom, industrial, control and distributed power architectures, with or without battery backup.

The industry-leading design offers a variety of controlled bulk dc outputs at 24Vdc, 28Vdc, 48Vdc, 54.5Vdc and 56.2Vdc from a wide-range ac universal input with active power-factor correction (PFC) circuitry to ensure it meets IEC1000-3-2 PFC requirements. The APC-3000 features a typical efficiency of up to 88 percent; active load sharing; redundant parallel operation;

400Hz input availability; remote on/off, remote sense, over-temperature warning and protection; an MTBF of 4 by 105 hours; and UL/CSA, TÜV and CE approvals.

The APC-3000 uses up to three off-the-shelf, hot-swap modules coupled with a corresponding 19in rack system to provide a flexible and scalable solution offering from 750W to 3,000W of total power, or a N+1 redundancy of 2kW. The ultra-low-profile, 1U, (43.5mm) power shelves can also be stacked to provide 12,000W of total power in a space-saving 4U high area.
