Absopulse Unveils New UPS300 UPS System

April 06, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, Ontario) announced the new UPS300, a low-profile, dc-output, UPS system measuring 1U x 19in x 11in, which was designed to provide 300W of uninterruptible power to loads that accept wide dc-input ranges. The UPS300 delivers 114Vdc to 372Vdc when operating from the ac line, and 114Vdc when drawing power from the external battery. It accepts inputs of 95Vac to 264Vac from the ac line, and 10Vdc to 18Vdc from the battery.

Upon the loss of ac power, the UPS300 provides a seamless transfer to the battery with zero transfer time, and back to the ac line when power resumes. This rapid switching between power sources is achieved with the addition of a 20W converter that provides quiescent current to the main 300W, 12V to 114Vdc step-up converter during normal ac line operation, and prevents current draw from the battery.

The UPS300 is protected on both inputs by thermal fuses. It has inrush-current protection on the ac input, reverse polarity protection on the 12Vdc battery input and low voltage shutdown. It also has electronic output overload protection, and short-circuit and over-voltage protection. The system is ruggedized against shock and vibration.

The UPS300 is priced at $747 for low quantities.
