May 04, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Absopulse Electronics Ltd. (Carp, Ontario, Canada) debuted its new HVI 5000 converter, which is designed for high-output power and high-voltage applications, and provides 125 Vdc continuous voltage at 40 A. The 5,000 W converter accepts inputs of either 277 Vac or 350 Vdc (±10%). It is fan-cooled and rated for operation in temperatures of 0 °C to 50 °C, with an extended operating temperature range of -40 °C to +65 °C available as an option.

The HVI 5000 features full electronic protection and has input/output filtering to meet EN55022 Class A EMI as a minimum. The unit is designed to meet international safety approvals, including IEC60950-1, CSA C22.2 No.60950-1-03 and UL60950-1. A Form C contact module fail alarm is included.

Originally designed for a power generation and distribution application, the HVI 5000 is also suitable for industrial and other heavy-duty applications. Additional ruggedizing and conformal coating are available for applications requiring immunity to shock, vibration, humidity, moisture, dust and insects. A three-phase input version is also available.

The converter is housed in a corrosion-resistant aluminum chassis. It measures 4U x 19 in x 15 in and weighs 18 kg. The HVI 5000 is priced at $2,778 for 100-piece quantities.
