0.6A Step-Down Synchronous DC-DC Converters

Torex Semiconductor Ltd. launched the XC9268 series of step-down synchronous dc-dc converters. The XC9268 series has operating voltage ranging from 3.0V to 36.0V and produces an output current of 0.6A.

The company designed the converters for industrial equipment and consumer appliances with an input source of 12V or 24V.

The XC9268 series features a maximum input of 36V, making it a suitable power supply for step-down from a 12V or 24V line. Its low 3.0V minimum input voltage makes a maximum duty cycle of 100% possible, so it can also be applied as a component in an input OR circuit used with a backup line.

Operating in PWM / PFM automatic switching control mode it has 83% efficiency in standby load state as a microcontroller. In this state, the device has 12Vin, 5Vout, and an Iout of 1mA.

In addition, even in the active state with a heavy load, it achieves 85% or more efficiency and delivers high efficiency throughout the entire load area. Its high-efficiency power supply circuit generates less heat when compared with conventional voltage regulators.

The dc-dc converter features reduced mounting space and requires 1/4 the space of the company's previous products.

The switching frequency can either be 1.2MHz or 2.2MHz.

The converters have a built-in P-channel MOS driver transistor and N-channel MOS switching transistor. Low ESR capacitors such as ceramic capacitors can be used for the load capacitor (CL). A 0.75V reference voltage source is incorporated in the IC, and the output voltage can be set to between 1.0V and 25.0V using external resistors.

Since it operates via PWM control, the soft-start time has been set internally to be 2.0ms (Typ.), but optionally, a time longer than the internal soft-start can be set depending on the resistance and capacity connected to the EN/SS terminal.

The device comes in a compact USP-6C package and features the power good function, thereby eliminating the need for a voltage detector to monitor output voltage, thereby reducing external component counts.

The power good function and external soft-start function make the sequence control easy. The over-current protection and thermal

shutdown ICs are built into these products to enable safe use. These environmentally-friendly converters are RoHS compliant and lead-free.
