May 19, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

Tyco Electronics (Harrisburg, PA) announced that it has been selected by Smiths Industries (Cheltenham, England) to supply the high-power electronic distribution unit for the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) F-35 program. The amount of the development contract was not revealed, but the total revenue potential to Tyco Electronics could be in excess of $100.0 million over the life of the program. The contract involves the development of four low-cost 270Vdc power relays.

Ted Anderson, director of Tyco Electronics' High-Performance Relay Group, stated, "This award confirms Tyco Electronics' leadership as the world's supplier of all types of primary power relays for the aerospace industry. The HARTMAN brand of relays have long been considered the leader and backbone of the aerospace industry for virtually all 115Vac and 28Vdc power systems, and now this award for the KILOVAC brand relays confirms Tyco Electronics' leadership in 270Vdc systems."
