August 18, 2002 by Jeff Shepard

TDI Batteries Inc. (Romeoville, IL), a division of Tyco Electronics Corp. (Harrisburg. PA), has opened its first battery pack and cell testing facility in Shanghai, China. The facility will operate as TDI Batteries' global center for research and development; qualification; and safety testing of battery packs, cells, PCBs and other power components.

The 6,000ft² facility is designed for complete in-house component and battery pack approval, typically covering cell, PCB and full product assembly. The testing will include pre-compliance and planned compliance testing in safety, abuse, EMC, environmental reliability, performance and life testing through internal, customer and regulatory specifications, and standards.
