SunPower Solar System Featured on Television Show

May 19, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

SunPower Corp. (Sunnyvale, CA), a silicon solar-cell company and a subsidiary of Cypress Semiconductor Corp., announced that its solar panels will be featured in the two back-to-back, season finale episodes of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," airing May 22, 2005. The solar panels will be installed in the home of the late PFC Lori Piestewa, the Native American soldier who died in Iraq; she is survived by her children and parents.

The new home includes SunPower panels that generate a substantial portion of the family's electricity directly from sunlight. It is the first home in Arizona to be supported by a joint wind and solar electricity system. The SunPower solar panels collect sunlight and turn it into pollution-free, no-cost electricity.

"We are pleased to be able to contribute SunPower solar panels to the Piestewa's new home, providing the family free electricity for decades to come," said SunPower CEO Tom Werner. "SunPower panels offer 50% more power on a typical residential roof compared with comparable photovoltaic products."
