June 07, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

SMA America Inc. (Grass Valley, CA) has issued a safety alert for its SB6000U solar inverter, and has begun the process of notifying its distributors to exchange the model's current stock to ensure operational safety. The company has also opened its website in seeking assistance from installers and end users to begin an exchange program for SB6000U units manufactured before May 31, 2005.

The company's safety alert for the SB6000U inverter reads, "Under no circumstances should installers or end users remove the ground fault fuse or attempt to repair the ground faults in the field." The SMA America website posting says, "SMA expects to meet any and all delivery requirements as the supply situation returns to normal." No other SMA America products are affected.
