Raritan Intelligent Power Technologies Interoperate with Cisco EnergyWise Platform

December 07, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Raritan announced that its intelligent device-level power management solutions are interoperable with Cisco® EnergyWise client technology. Through this interoperable solution, customers can gain a more comprehensive, complete picture of power consumption within the data center rack space.

Raritan’s PX line of intelligent power distribution units (PDU) provides valuable power usage insights on individual servers and other IT devices, as well as temperature and humidity at server racks. The PX intelligent PDU information helps data centers address availability, utilization and cost of power and reduce green house gas emissions. Organizations, for example, can use the information and PX’s remote management controls to set and implement dynamic power policies, such as scheduling equipment to shut down when not in use, for significant energy savings.

EnergyWise is a Cisco IOS end-to-end network-based power monitoring and management solution that can extend from Cisco networking devices out to any energy-consuming device. Cisco EnergyWise enables the communications network to act as a platform for energy command and control, with the ability to group and query network devices as well as apply energy management policies to connected devices in a simple, more efficient and scalable way.

Customers can now combine Cisco EnergyWise with multiple Raritan intelligent PDUs to monitor the exact power consumption of all devices in every rack within the data center.

"We are very pleased to support Cisco’s innovative EnergyWise platform that enables multi-level, organization-wide energy management," said Rasul Damji, senior vice President of Global Product Operations at Raritan. "With broader insights and control over power use, organizations can take more powerful steps to reduce energy costs. Our common vision to provide energy intelligence at a unique ID level and granular control over the network will bring exciting changes to the industry and help to support efficient and Green IT."

"Raritan’s power intelligence capabilities at the device level provide important insights on how to improve energy efficiency in data centers and other locations," said Jeff Reed, Vice President of Ethernet Switching Technology Group at Cisco. "We are excited to add Raritan to our growing eco-system of partners. The combination of the important information provided by Raritan and the unique EnergyWise capabilities embedded within Cisco’s network infrastructure, greatly enhance customers ability to measure and control energy consumption."

"Cisco’s Advanced Services Energy Management Practice works closely with Cisco developers to better understand our customers’ need to better manage and monitor energy consumption and proactively address any inefficiency," said Rob Aldrich, senior manager, Cisco Advanced Services. "The combination of Raritan smart PDUs and Cisco’s EnergyWise brings together the benefits of Cisco network capabilities with Raritan’s smart metering devices, allowing customers to track energy usage from the network to the device."

The Cisco Developer Network unites Cisco with third-party developers of hardware and software to deliver tested interoperable solutions to joint customers. As a Registered Developer, Raritan offers a complementary product offering and has started to collaborate with Cisco to meet the needs of joint customers. With offerings such as PX intelligent PDU, customers can more quickly deploy a broad range of Cisco Compatible business applications, devices, or services that can enhance the capabilities, performance, and management of their Cisco network.
