ON Semi Opens Microelectronics Center in Slovakia

December 12, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

ON Semiconductor (Phoenix, AZ) has opened a center for microelectronics at the College of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology of the Slovak University of Technology (Bratislava, Slovakia). The ON Semiconductor Centre for Microelectronics at STU (ONMiST) will allow the Slovak University of Technology to advance capability in the modeling, design and characterization of semiconductor building blocks in a real-world industrial environment.

The ONMiST facility is a full-owned ON Semiconductor entity at the Slovak University's premises. It is housed in the international laser center, a recently-refurbished building dedicated to research in optical laser technologies. The activities at ONMiST will include establishment of joint development projects in the areas of logic building block characterization and design, analog integrated circuits testing and mixed signal design.

“The opening of this facility complements and demonstrates ON Semiconductor's increasing investment and commitment to long-term presence in Central Europe," said Alistair Banham, president and general manager of ON Semiconductor's Europe, Middle-East and Africa region. He added, “This joint collaboration will ultimately advance design and manufacturing capabilities and provide high educational value to the faculty and the students."
