O2Micro Granted Pivotal Phase-Array Inverter Patent

O2Micro International Ltd. (Santa Clara, CA), a supplier of power management and security ICs to mobile computer and communications manufacturers, was granted 56 claims under US patent number 6,501,234 for its phase-array inverter invention. The patented phase-array architecture facilitates the large-panel LCD TV and monitor market, offering a flexible Phase-on-demand™ design methodology to support large CCFL panel sizes. The patented architecture is the basis of O2Micro's phase-array backlight, Intelligent Inverter®, controller chipset.

Yung Lin, O2Micro's vice president of the Intelligent Inverter® business unit, stated, "This patented architecture reduces overall system cost, while offering the highest performance and efficiency, compared to available solutions. The Phase-on-demand™ design methodology supports up to 32 CCFLs."
