National Semi to Sell Singapore Test and Assembly Plant

March 09, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

National Semiconductor Corp. (Santa Clara, CA) reported that it is seeking a buyer for its assembly and test plant in Toa Payoh, Singapore, to streamline its operations in-line with its product focus on lower pin-count packages. Manufacturing activities at the Singapore plant are to continue during the sale process.

"Although National’s Singapore facility is a world-class operation with a highly skilled workforce, it is geared more towards complex, high-pin count digital products," said National Semiconductor Chairman, President and CEO Brian Halla. "We are seeking a buyer for the facility because National is moving to a product portfolio that doesn’t require these high-pin count packages."

The facility employs approximately 1,000 people, including 320 professional staff and 680 technicians and operators.
