MGE UPS Pulsar EX RT UPS Receives EE Times Honor

February 28, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

MGE UPS Systems Inc. (Costa Mesa, CA), a leader in high-availability power solutions to the industrial, telecom and IT markets, announced that its Pulsar EX RT fuel-cell-powered, on-line uninterruptible power supply (UPS) was selected as a finalist in the power category for the EE Times Annual Creativity in Electronics Awards Ultimate Products of the Year, which honors the people, companies and products that demonstrate leadership in the electronics industry.

MGE’s Pulsar EX RT UPS provides virtually unlimited backup time to critical network systems as long as hydrogen fuel is supplied. The hydrogen, which is contained in replaceable cylinders, is piped directly to the fuel cell module. Like a battery, the fuel cell module produces dc voltage that is then bussed to the UPS. The rack systems, which are based on MGE’s proven double-conversion online technology, offer power protection optimized for maximum reliability and long backup times.

"This first fuel-cell-powered, on-line UPS offers the most robust backup power solution on the market today," said MGE Vice President of Sales, Single Phase Products, Jeff Wood. "We’re pleased to be recognized for our product leadership by the editors of EE Times as well as the engineering community."
