March 22, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

Lattice Semiconductor Corp. (Hillsboro, OR) signed a major deal to invest up to $200 million in Fujitsu Ltd.'s new 300 mm factory. Fujitsu has agreed to manufacture Lattice's next-generation FPGA products on its 130 nm and 90 nm CMOS process technologies, as well as a 130 nm technology with embedded flash memory being jointly developed by the two companies.

Lattice is investing between $100 million and $200 million in the Fujitsu chip factory. Meanwhile, Lattice is also in discussions with Fujitsu regarding the manufacturing of 65 nm technology products. Fujitsu's new 300 mm wafer fab is scheduled to begin operating in spring 2005, and will enable a long-term, stable, 300 mm advanced technology wafer supply for Lattice.
