May 30, 2000 by Jeff Shepard

Hyundai Motor Co. (Ann Arbor, MI), is building two prototype fuel cell-powered SUVs that use fuel cells from International Fuel Cells. The internal combustion engine in Hyundai's new "Santa Fe" SUV will be replaced by a single-stack, proton-exchange membrane IFC fuel cell and an electric drive system supplied by Enova Systems (Torrance, CA), which supplies Hyundai with electric and hybrid-electric vehicle components.
