Nextel Communications (Reston, VA) announced the installation of a HyUPS regenerative, backup fuel cell, power generator designed and manufactured by Hydrogenics Corp. (Mississauga, ON) at its facility in Northern California. The next step of the trial will simulate grid power failure conditions in order to test the 25kW HyUPS system under a variety of operating conditions. The trial is expected to last through to the end of the summer.

"In preparation for the trial of this alpha unit, Hydrogenics made great strides in understanding how to design and operate a reliable, efficient, fuel cell power generator."
