Future Lighting Solutions Adds LED Drivers From ROAL Electronics

March 29, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

Future Lighting Solutions announced that it has become the first worldwide distributor of advanced LED drivers from Italy’s ROAL Electronics. The agreement will make ROAL’s compact, high-efficiency, flicker-free, dimmable drivers readily available to designers and engineers building solid-state lighting applications around the globe.

ROAL products carried by Future Lighting Solutions will include the Tropo and Strato series, suitable for applications such as recessed downlights, wall packs, commercial refrigeration, low bay lights and street lights. Both product lines support all international input voltage standards. ROAL is also scheduled to release additional LED driver series later this year.

The Tropo series is a family of 15W triac dimmable drivers that are compatible with standard wall mount dimmers to enable use of the existing lighting infrastructure. The Strato series, available in 35 and 70W versions, features the ability to set the current with a current setting resistor, adjust the current based on temperature feedback via a temperature sensor (NTC), and provide dimming control with a 0-10V control system that allows the current to be set below the nominal current value for maximum flexibility.

"ROAL’s LED drivers are a valuable addition to the driver options we offer our customers," said Jacques Blais, Corporate Vice President of Future Lighting Solutions. "They support a wide range of solid-state lighting applications, give us our first triac dimmable drivers as well as our first adjustable current solution, facilitate compliance with Energy Star ratings, and have an advanced feature set that will push LED lighting into new territory."

"This distribution agreement ensures that LED lighting manufacturers worldwide will have ready access to our drivers as well as to expert Future Lighting Solutions engineers who can help them match the driver to the application," said Alessandro Leopardi, CEO of ROAL Electronics. "This kind of solution support is essential in helping lighting designers overcome the technical challenges of LED application development."
