Fairchild to Complete Suzhou Facility in Q2

March 09, 2003 by Jeff Shepard

Fairchild Semiconductor International (South Portland, ME) has announced that its 800,000ft² assembly, test and warehouse facility in Suzhou, China, is scheduled to be completed next quarter. The facility is located within the China-Singapore Suzhou Industrial Park. Qualification testing is ongoing, and about 250 employees are being trained to immediately begin production.

With the new factory, Fairchild will reduce the amount of outsourced assembly and test production required, balance the company's dependence on outside contractors, ensure more effective cost control, enhance production ramps for new products, strengthen the supply and logistic channel, and provide the needed assembly and test capacity.

"Our number one goal is to better serve our diverse customer base with products for applications such as home appliances, monitors, audio/video, chargers/adapters, power supplies, telecom infrastructure, PDAs, color TV receivers, mobile phones and PCs," said Kirk Pond, president and CEO.
