EPCOS and Matsushita Electronic Extend Cooperation

June 30, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

EPCOS AG (Germany) and Matsushita Electronic Components Co. Ltd. are extending technical cooperation in passive electronic components. This is based on three new agreements that come into force on June 30, 2004.

The patent cross license agreement signed with Matsushita Electric Industrial in 1999 has been prematurely replaced by a new agreement, thus extending cooperation in this field by five years until 2014. Under this agreement, Matsushita Electric Industrial and EPCOS grant each other non-exclusive, non-transferable, worldwide licenses on their respective patents relating to major product families in the field of passive electronic components.

"By signing the new agreements, both partners have further improved the basic conditions for joint technology projects," said EPCOS Management Board member and COO Josef Unterlass. "The exchange of know-how enables each party to benefit from the strengths of the other, creating competitive advantages for Matsushita and EPCOS alike."
