Elma Adds Power Solutions to its Americas Offering

October 31, 2016 by Jeff Shepard

Elma Electronic now offers a vastly expanded selection of power supply solutions and significantly expanded technical expertise to its customers in the American markets, as a result of its 2015 acquisition of Trenew AG. Highlights of the new power solutions line include: ac-dc, dc-dc and dc-ac converters, from 10W to 75,000W; Available in a wide variety of form factors; Custom configurations in low quantities; Very long lifecycle support; For direct purchase or integrated into computing platforms or board assemblies.

Silvan Müller, head of the PSU (power supply unit) Competence Center for Elma, noted, "The newly combined resources give our customers access to a full range of power supply solutions for a host of applications, whether they need a standalone PSU or require one to be integrated into their computing platforms or board assemblies."

As part of its global organization, the new PSU Competence Center brings to Elma its long-standing technical expertise in configuring custom tailored solutions and adding value to existing standard or modified standard power supplies to a wider range of users needing intuitive power resource management.

The center combines resources from the company's internal design team and select premium partners to provide product recommendation and tech support as well as project and lifecycle management. These partnerships are longstanding relationships with multiple power supply manufacturers, each with a unique set of expertise.

Power supplies are available in various form factors: open frame and u-bracket, chassis or DIN rail-mount, plug-in modules, 19" rackmount shelf, PCB-mount and modular, building block configurations. This robust set of PSUs also includes modular plug-in units designed by Elma specifically for use in VPX and PC/104 systems.

Working with the design engineer, Elma configures optimal power solutions specifically tailored to a project requirement, without incurring significant NRE (non-recurring engineering) charges or high volume production. Most users find benefits in leveraging Elma's strong integration engineering talents and production capabilities to incorporate their power supplies into Elma's system platform solutions, but the PSUs can also be made available separately. An online Product Configurator is available to guide users through the power supply selection process.
