Darnell’s Power Forum Adds Portable Power Management

May 18, 2010 by Jeff Shepard

Darnell’s Power Forum (DPF ’10) has expanded its focus to include Portable Power Management as a core area for paper submissions. Portable power topics may include: next-generation rechargeable battery systems, dynamic power management, maximizing runtimes, advanced battery management, integration of micro fuel cells and energy harvesting, optimizing dc-dc converter efficiencies, subsystem power issues, wireless charging technologies, advanced architectures and efficient energy utilization, battery fuel gauging, highperformance thermal management, and so on. The deadline for proposals is June 30. Space is limited and potential authors are urged to send in their submissions early.

"This expansion in the coverage of Darnell’s Power Forum is a result of requests from members of our Advisory Committee and suggestions from the industry in general. The addition of portable power management is a logical complement to our existing coverage of leading-edge power conversion technologies," stated Jeff Shepard, President of Darnell Group. "We are excited about the expansion of DPF and about the opportunity to bring an international group of power and energy experts to the Chicago area," Shepard concluded.

DPF ’10 will be hosted at the Doubletree Hotel Chicago, Oak Brook, mid-way between O’Hare and Midway airports, September 13-15, 2010. There is tremendous synergy possible from discussions broadly focused on power management, energy efficiency, advanced components, energy storage, smart grid innovations, and more. DPF ’10 will be a solutions-oriented event, with a strong emphasis on practical advances in power electronics. In addition to a strong focus on today’s "best practices," DPF ’10 will look forward toward next-generation solutions and advances.

Darnell’s Power Forum will now feature six primary areas of focus: Advanced Components, Digital Power, Energy Harvesting, High-Efficiency Power Conversion, Innovation for the Smart Grid, and the newly added area of Portable Power Management. Within each of these broad areas will be multiple topics and application areas. A call for papers has been issued for:

In each case, the types of papers being sought include:

– Case studies/industry examples

– Design techniques and tools

– Technology developments

The exhibition area will include a full range of active and passive electronic components, energy harvesting devices, batteries and energy storage components, ac-dc power supplies, dc-dc converters, uninterruptible power supplies, power management ICs, and cooling equipment. Exhibitors will have an opportunity to network with key technical personnel in a relaxed and positive atmosphere. DPF will maximize exhibitors’ productivity. The Exhibit Hall will only open when there are no technical sessions. Focused exhibit hours will maximize productivity and efficiency and the addition of food and drink during the exhibits ensures that the Exhibit Hall is THE place to be during exhibit hours. A Welcome Reception and Lunch are served for all delegates in the Exhibit Hall.
