Darnell Group Releases New Portable Power Packs Report

March 16, 2005 by Jeff Shepard

Darnell Group Inc. (Corona, CA) has released its new Fifth Edition of "Power Packs for Portable Electronics," which in addition to application forecasts, provides detail about pack sizes, electronics content in the packs, and forecasts for chemistries, including lithium-ion, lithium-polymer, nickel-cadmium and nickel-metal hydride.

The report quantifies the opportunities and challenges that await micro fuel cells as they vie to compete with rechargeable battery packs. This comprehensive analysis details growth for mobile phones, digital cameras, notebook computers, PDAs, cordless phones, power tools and other portable electronic devices.

According to the new report, the worldwide market for rechargeable battery packs will hit 1.6 billion units within five years. While the overall market is projected to achieve a substantial 9.0% compound annual growth rate, the growth rates of different device types will vary significantly from region to region. Growing demand for mobile phones will drive above-average growth in Asia and Central and Latin America, while the near saturation of the mobile phone segment will dampen overall growth rates in North America and Europe.
