Every business day, PowerPulse provides readers comprehensive coverage of important New Product announcements, spanning the globe from Asia to Europe and North America. PowePulse is the most-read power electronics publication in the world because we deliver the most information to the most readers. In 2016, PowerPulse published over 2500 news stories and delivered over 12 million email updates to subscribers of PowerPulseDaily, no other publication comes close.

The following is a listing (with links for the full story) of the most-read New Product announcements on PowerPulse.Net for 2016, thus providing a window into the "pulse" of the trends and interests in the Global Power Electronics Industry. This is the third article in the series, which will continue tomorrow.

#30: 1700V SiC MOSFET Optimized for Industrial Converters

ROHM has recently announced the availability of a new 1700V SiC MOSFET, part number SCT2H12NZ, optimized for industrial applications, such as manufacturing equipment, high-voltage general-purpose inverters, auxiliary power supplies for high voltage (i.e. 400Vac) industrial equipment such as factory automation (robots), solar and industrial inverters, and manufacturing/testing devices. More.

#29: Two-Watt DC-DC with 50% Lower Profile than Industry Norm

Murata has announced the NXE2 series of 2-Watt surface-mounted dc-dc converters from Murata Power Solutions. Footprint compatible with similar 1- and 2-Watt devices available on the market, and measuring 12.5 x 4.36 x 10.41 mm, the NXE2 series provides more power output in the same space. The converter is constructed using fully automated techniques in a halogen free iLGA inspectable package with an integrated transformer. This approach increases product reliability and repeatability of converter performance. More.

#28: Isolated DC-DC Control ICs without Optocouplers

Rohm has announced the availability of isolated flyback-type dc-dc converter control ICs for inverters in high power industrial equipment such as factory automation drives, solar inverters and power storage systems. Isolation is almost always built into electronic equipment to provide protection against shock and damage. High-voltage, high-power industrial applications (including power storage systems and solar inverters which are seeing increased adoption) are no exception, requiring even more stringent reliability demands due to the harsher temperature conditions and the need for continuous, long-term operation. More.

#27: Load Switches Extend Battery Life in Wearable Applications

At the close of last week's IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC 2016), GLF Integrated Power, Inc. announced the mass market release of the first product in its IQSmart™ line of high-performance load switches. The GLF71311 load switch claims these best-in-class features: an off-state leakage current (ISD) of 5nA, typical, at 3.3Vin; a logic operating current (IQ) of less than 10nA, typical, up to 5.5V; and an on-state resistance of 34mOhms, max, at 5.5V and 41mOhms (maximum) at 3.3V. Add to this a tiny 0.97 by 0.97mm form factor, and designers now have an ultra-efficient alternative for improving power efficiency in their wearables, mobile medical devices and other battery-powered devices that is significantly better than competing load switches – and dramatically better than using discrete devices. More.

#26: 200- to 1500-Vdc Input DC-DCs for PV Power Systems

Mornsun recently released new 15W and 40W power supply modules, PV15/PV40-29Bxx series, which provide ultra-wide 200- to 1500-Vdc input voltage, high isolation voltage of 4000Vac and can be used at high altitudes up to 5000m. The ultra-wide input voltage range makes these dc-dc converters suitable in a wider variety of designs from under 1,000Vdc system to emerging 1,500Vdc systems. Higher-voltage systems enable longer strings, which allow for fewer combiner boxes, less wiring and trenching, and therefore less labor. More.

#25: 650V Ultra Junction Power MOSFETs with Fast Body Diodes

IXYS Corporation announced an expansion of its Ultra Junction Power MOSFET product line: 650V X2-Class Power MOSFETs with fast body diodes. With on-resistance as low as 17 milliohms and current ratings ranging from 22A to 150A, these devices are optimized for soft-switching resonant-mode power conversion applications. More.

#24: Driver ICs with Reinforced Isolation Deliver up to 8A

Power Integrations announced a family of galvanically isolated single-channel gate driver ICs ranging in output current from 2.5A to 8A – the industry's highest output current without an external booster. SCALE-iDriver™ ICs, optimized for driving both IGBTs and MOSFETs, are the first products to bring Power Integrations' pioneering FluxLink™ magneto-inductive bi-directional communications technology to 1200V driver applications. FluxLink technology eliminates the need for unreliable opto-electronics and the associated compensation circuitry, thereby enhancing operational stability while reducing system complexity. More.

#23: Modules Support Google 48V Data Center Infrastructure

Vicor Corporation announced its latest generation of 48V Direct-to-PoL (Point-of-Load) power components. These modules, which allow contemporary low-voltage, high-current CPUs, GPUs, ASICs and DDR memory to be powered off of a 48V distribution bus, enable unprecedented power density, conversion efficiency and low power system distribution loss. Evidencing advances in power conversion engines, control systems and modular power technology, Vicor's latest 48V modules are being introduced following the Open Compute Project (OCP) Summit 2016 at which Google announced its initiative to promote 48V server and distribution infrastructure as a standard for data centers. More.

#22: Multimode Flyback Controller for Mid- to High-End LED Lighting

Infineon Technologies AG launched a multimode flyback controller IC for LED applications. It can shorten 'time-to-light', lower component counts and reduce operational and standby power consumption. Designed to meet the performance and efficiency demands of mid-range to high-end LED designs, the IRS2982S provides a versatile controller solution that can meet the needs of a wide variety of interior, outdoor, office and industrial lighting schemes. More.

#21: Reverse-blocking, pFET Integrated Power Controllers

Silego Technology announced an expansion of its pFET integrated power controller portfolio with a new family of self-powered, 1.6 mm², single-channel and dual-channel very low-power controllers with reverse-current protection. Designed for all high-side, 1.5V to 5.5V power rail applications, these new pFET power controllers achieve an ultra-stable 23mΩ RDSON over temperature. Using Silego's proprietary CuFET™ technology, these new products can handle load currents up to 4A and exhibit low thermal resistance. More.
