2004 Solar Home Tour Comes to Northern California

September 14, 2004 by Jeff Shepard

The Northern California Solar Energy Association (NorCal Solar) announced its eighth annual Solar Home Tour on Saturday, October 2, 2004. This year, 85 homeowners in more than 30 communities throughout Northern California will open their doors to show what it’s like to use renewable energy sources to heat, cool and light their homes, and to provide construction and renovation tips, techniques and technology recommendations.

The Northern California Solar Home Tour is part of the American Solar Energy Society’s national tour which takes place in the fall each year, and is now in over 800 communities across the country. Last October, more than 30,000 people nationwide toured solar buildings in 45 states, including 2,100 in Northern California.

Featuring a range of designs, prices and solar applications, each local tour will showcase different building materials, technologies and techniques. Consumers can personally experience different systems, ask questions, and get tips from homeowners and experts about the economical comfort of solar living. Self-guided home tours will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. n most of the tour communities. Attendees must come to a designated location to pick up maps and other resources. Admission is $15 per group for one to five people in the same vehicle, with early registrants (by 9/30/04) and NorCal Solar members receiving a $5 discount. All contributions are tax-deductible.
