ZenergiZe High Power Energy Storage System: Clean, Quiet, Compact
Atlas Copco has launched a new family of lithium-ion based energy storage systems called ZenergiZe. These systems deliver zero CO2 emissions and zero noise while packing an area of only 1.4m2.
Atlas Copco recently released a line of energy storage systems called the ZenergiZe. These systems are exceptionally interesting due to the fact that they can deliver energy with zero carbon emissions, zero noise, and also require virtually zero maintenance, according to Atlas Copco’s press release. These collective capabilities of an energy storage system represent the first time that the market’s needs for clean and quiet energy delivery and storage.
The ZenergieZe family consists of two models, the ZBE And ZBP, with rated powers of 15kVA and 45kVA respectively, along with an electrical capacity of 45kWh for both models. These systems can be paired with a generator to enable smart load management, or can be the sole entity in the storage system while in its island mode.

The company says a prime example of using the ZenergiZe system as a sole source is to use for powering a transmitter with 5kW power over an 8 hour span. These systems are ideal when one needs to meet operating and safety standards within noise-sensitive environments such as events and metropolitan construction sites.
The ZenergiZe unit also has a hybrid mode, which significantly reduces fuel consumption and emissions of the total system. When paired with a QAS80 generator, operators reduce fuel consumption by over 50 percent over 12 hours compared to using a larger QAS125 generator instead. This is due to the fact that the smart load management capabilities of the ZenergiZe allow the generator to reach peak powers, optimize performance, extend the lifetime, and only need a generator with 40% of the standalone generator’s size.
The unit is estimated to save 100 tons of CO2 when compared to using a standalone generator which is equivalent to planting 450 trees that will live for thirty years. Meanwhile, as stated previously, when the unit is used in island mode, the CO2 emissions can go down to zero if the unit is powered by renewable energy sources like solar and wind power.
All of these features are packed into a 1.4m2 footprint the ZenergiZe is ideal for applications where space is limited, and it is able to do so by using high-density lithium-ion batteries, making it 70 percent smaller and lighter than traditional standalone generators. This allows the transportation of the ZenergiZe without any specialized equipment.
The ZenergiZe also requires virtually zero maintenance, minimizing the total cost of ownership, and has a lifespan of 40,000 working hours in normal conditions, which include a temperature range of -20 to 50 ºC. The unit has an overload capability of 150% along with a 12 hour lifetime without charging in low load applications, with a charging time of only 1.5 hours.
Overall, this ZenergiZe unit has the capability to shrink the footprint, size and cost of energy storage systems, whether it be used on its own or paired with a generator. This is all due to its ability to optimize the devices around it, and the eco-friendly and high performance design within the ZenergiZe itself.
