Weidmuller USA has introduced its PROeco II power supplies with Snap In technology, adding a new connection method aimed at simplifying wiring and improving installation speed in industrial control systems.

The SNAP IN allows tool-free wiring with a simple push-in mechanism and audible confirmation. Combined with up to 95% efficiency, compact design, and broad industrial compatibility, the PROeco II series may provide a practical upgrade for modern power distribution in automation environments.

Snap In Connection Technology

Weidmuller’s Snap In wiring technology replaces traditional screw- or spring-clamp terminals with a preloaded spring mechanism. This spring-loaded mechanism allows stripped wires to be inserted directly into the terminal, and once inserted, the connection is secured automatically, with an audible “click” confirming proper contact.

This approach reduces installation time and eliminates the need for tools during wiring, while also improving consistency because connection quality no longer depends on torque or manual tightening. However, pull tests are still advised.

Wires can be released using an integrated pusher, allowing for straightforward rework or maintenance without damaging the terminals.

Electrical Performance and Efficiency

Weidmuller’s PROeco II series can deliver up to 95% efficiency, helping reduce overall energy consumption even in small systems while limiting heat buildup in control cabinets.

As with any system, lower heat generation can make thermal management easier, especially in enclosed or space-constrained panels. These power supplies provide stable 24 VDC and 48 VDC outputs for industrial control systems, supporting common automation systems without introducing significant variation under normal operating conditions.

In addition, low idle power consumption helps reduce wasted energy in systems that remain powered for long periods, which can add up over time in continuously running applications.

Mechanical Design and Reliability

The PROeco II power supplies are designed for compact installations, with a shallow depth of only 100 mm, making them fit easily into space-constrained control cabinets, while still supporting startup down to -40°C and maintaining stable operation across a wide temperature range for typical industrial environments. The power supplies are also rated with a mean time between failures (MTBF) exceeding one million hours.

Diagnostics and System Integration

The PROeco II series also includes a tri-color LED and status relay for basic diagnostics. It can provide a clear indication of normal operation, overload conditions, and fault states.

The power supplies are also integrated with broader power management systems, including DC UPS units, electronic load monitoring, and diode modules. This makes them suitable for building more robust and redundant power architectures in automation environments.

Weidmuller’s PROeco II power supplies with Snap In technology combine a new approach to wiring with solid electrical performance and industrial reliability. The PROeco II power supplies allow wiring with tool-free installation, reduce wiring effort, and maintain high efficiency and compact form factors.
