Vishay Releases New TMBS™ and Planar Schottky Rectifiers

December 03, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. launched a new miniature package type for its Trench MOS Barrier Schottky (TMBS™) and planar Schottky rectifiers that enables higher-current-density power supply designs with its compact dimensions and ability to handle up to 100V and 12A.

With a 1.1mm height and 4.8-mm by 6.7mm footprint, the new devices in the SMPC package are designed to provide more power in a smaller space for applications including secondary rectifiers and freewheeling circuitry for ac-dc and dc-dc converters; output rectification for small and medium power adaptors; switchmode power supplies in consumer electronics such as computers, LCD monitors, and cell phones; flywheel and polarity protection for solenoid drive circuits in automotive and industry systems; and OR-ing diodes for telecommunication and industrial systems.

The three TMBS rectifiers in the SMPC package released today feature voltage ratings up to 100V and high current power densities of 8 to 12A. The 16 new planar Schottky rectifiers provide voltage ratings from 20 to 100V, and high current power densities from 3 to 10 A. All the devices feature a very low forward voltage drop, and special wide-bottom plate designs that provide greater heat dissipation than other packages of similar sizes.

The single- or dual-chip, surface-mount SMPC (TO-277A) package of these new rectifiers features solder pads that are compatible with other SMD devices, so no modification is needed to the PCB layout when they are used as higher-performing upgrades to existing devices.

Samples and production quantities of the SMPC-packaged rectifiers are available now, with lead times of 6 to 8 weeks for immediate orders.
