Vishay Releases New Schottky Rectifiers Rated to 1A and Transient Voltage Suppressors Rated to 100W

April 22, 2007 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. launched a new MicroSMP miniature package type for Schottky rectifiers and transient voltage suppressors (TVS) that provides high current power density and low thermal resistance for space savings and improved reliability.

With a low 0.65mm height and 2.5mm x 1.3mm footprint, the new Schottky MicroSMP rectifiers are designed to provide secondary rectification and freewheeling diode functions for miniature ac-dc and dc-dc converters; flywheel and polarity protection for miniature power converters and portable electronic equipment such as digital cameras, MP3 players, navigation systems, GPS, and cellular phones; and polarity protection of power lines and signal lines for automotive and industrial systems.

The new MicroSMP TVS devices are optimized for power and signal line protection for microprocessors, signal processing ICs, and logic circuits; and high-power voltage regulation for non-sensitive input voltage circuits in automotive and industrial electronics. These new devices are claimed to improve on all previous TVS products in similar package types by combining ESD transient protection with a superior surge clamping capability.

Featuring a low forward voltage drop, the six new Schottky rectifiers released today are rated up to 1A at a 110°C lead temperature, while the two new voltage suppressors feature a peak pulse current of 100W at a 10/1000µs waveform. All the devices offer a high 25A forward surge current capability for an 8.3µs pulse. Low junction-to-lead thermal resistance of 30°C/W for the Schottky rectifiers and 20°C/W for the TVS devices provides improved reliability and a longer operational life span.

The devices’ single-chip, surface-mount MicroSMP package features solder pads that are compatible with other SMD devices, so no modification is needed to the PCB layout when they are used as higher-performing upgrades to existing devices.

Samples and production quantities of the new Schottky and TVS devices in the MicroSMP package are available now with lead times of eight weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery is $0.025/each in 1000-piece quantities, $0.022/each in 10,000-piece quantities, and $0.02/each in 100,000-piece quantities.
