Vishay Releases High-Voltage, Single- & Dual-Supply SPDT Analog Switches

January 13, 2008 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. released two new high-voltage, single- and dual-supply single-pole double-throw (SPDT) analog switches. The DG469 and DG470 devices are identical, except the DG470 provides an enable pin, which puts all of the switches in a high-impedance state, maintaining a "safe state" at power up and preventing accidental signal or power shorts.

The new switches are optimized for audio and video signal switching, sample and hold systems, precision data acquisition, relay replacement, and power routing in audio equipment, automatic test equipment, industrial equipment, communications systems, xDSL modems, automotive and avionic systems, and medical equipment.

For instrumentation and power routing, the DG470’s enable pin disconnects both inputs and outputs, guaranteeing that signals and power are not connected until the enable pin is activated, and can be used as a quick "disconnect" function in the event of a fault condition. For audio switching, the enable pin also provides a "mute" function.

The DG469 and DG470 offer a very low 3.6Ω typical and 4.2Ω maximum on-resistance with flatness of 0.4Ω typical. Both devices are rated for 120mA of continuous current, key for relays replacement and power routing. The devices offer a 44V maximum supply voltage rating, and 57dB isolation at 1MHz.

The high-voltage devices are fully specified to operate with dual supplies at ± 5V and ± 15 or a 12V single supply, and offer an up to ±15V analog signal range on the outputs and inputs. The switches operate with low power dissipation of 66µW. They feature fast typical switching speeds of 129ns tON and 80ns tOFF.

All digital inputs have 0.8 and 2.4V logic thresholds, ensuring low-voltage CMOS/TTL logic compatibility. Each switch conducts equally well in both directions when on, and can handle an input signal range that extends to the supply voltage rails. The devices are offered in a choice of MSOP-8 and SOIC-8 packages.

The DG469 is an improved upgrade for the Vishay Siliconix industry-standard DG419, reducing the on-resistance (of 4.2Ω instead of 35Ω) and eliminating the need for a separate VL logic supply voltage. The DG469 likewise serves as a pin-for-pin upgrade for the MAX4659 by offering much lower on resistance, dramatically lower power consumption, a higher switch current rating (120 mA vs. 30 mA), and a wider temperature range.

Samples of the DG469 and DG470 SPDT analog switches are available now. Production quantities are available now, with lead times of six to eight weeks for larger orders. Both devices are available in the standard and extended temperature ranges of -40 to +85°C and -40 to +125°C.
