Vishay Introduces New Chip Capacitor

New Products May 17, 2006 by Jeff Shepard

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) announced the release of a family of leadframeless tantalum capacitors with face-down terminations, giving designers a new source of small-footprint capacitors for mobile electronic systems. Vishay's new 298D MicroTan™ surface-mount capacitors provide capacitance values from 1 µF at 16 V to 47 µF at 4 V in the small 0603 and 0805 footprints, requiring less printed circuit board space and thus enabling smaller, more stylish end products.

Well-suited for signal processing and power management applications in mobile phones, digital cameras, and MP3 devices, the 298D devices offer a capacitance tolerance of ±20%, voltage ratings from 4 WVDC to 16 WVDC, low ESR, and 0.01 CV DC leakage values. The new devices are rated to operate over the temperature range of –55° C to +85° C, and can be operated to +125° C with voltage derating. Offering lead (Pb)-free and RoHs-compliant terminations, the 298D capacitors are provided in 8-mm tape and reel packaging available per EIA-481-1 and reeling per the IEC 286-3.7 inch (178 mm) standard.

Samples of the 298D MicroTan tantalum capacitors are available now. Production quantities will be available in June 2006 with lead time of eight weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery in 10,000-piece quantities starts at $0.100 per piece.
