Vicor Introduces Wide-Input 28V Micro DC-DC Converters

New Products Jun 03, 2009 by Jeff Shepard

The Brick Business Unit of Vicor Corp. announced the addition of eight wide-input micro dc-dc converters to its 28Vdc input family. These models have nominal output voltages ranging from 3.3 to 48Vdc and a maximum power of 100W (50W at 3.3 and 5Vout and 100W at 12, 15, 24, 28, 36, and 48Vout). These modules are well suited for either 12 or 24V applications such as MIL-COTS or commercial battery systems in vehicles. They can also be used in a variety of vehicle or man-portable applications including lighting, communications, portable test equipment, display, and control systems.

With efficiencies ranging up to 81%, these converters operate from 28V nominal input, with an input range of 9 to 36V. These models are available in four environmental grades (with operating temperatures as low as -55°C) with six pin options and three baseplate options. These modules, which are available in RoHS-compliant models, are a compact 2.28 x 1.45 x 0.5 in. (57,9 x 36,8 x 12,7mm) in size and have a wide trim range of 10 to 110% of nominal output voltage.

"With these new entries, Vicor is expanding an already broad 28 V family of wide-input dc-dc converters," said Kai Johnstad, Sr. Product Marketing Manager, "The wide-input 28V Micro module offers additional options including more output voltages, environmental grades, and a variety of packaging choices."

Pricing for the wide-input 28V Micro module begins as low as $102 USD in 100-piece quantities. Lead times can be as short as three weeks for prototype quantities.
